Filingpoint a DIN is unique identification number that the central government assigns to people who want to become or are working as directors of companies and LLPs. It allows the government to keep a database of these individuals and prevents them from impersonating others; this number also makes it easy for anyone to confirm a director's credentials.
If an individual submits the correct information on their application, they will receive their DIN via email or mail from MCA; it remains active for the rest of their life and cannot be revoked. It can be replaced with a Designated Partner Identification Number (DPIN) in the event that someone wants to change their status; this is possible after filing an e-form INC-22A.
Anyone who wants to surrender their DIN must file an e-form DIR-5 along with a declaration that they never worked as a director and that the DIN was never used for filing any documents with authorities. If they have not filed this form by the due date, the ministry will mark their DIN as 'Deactivated due to Non-filing of DIR-3 KYC.'
The government takes steps during the DIN allotment process to avoid generating duplicate DINs by cross-checking PAN databases; however, duplicate DINs do happen in rare instances. Anyone who has a duplicate DIN should immediately apply to surrender it through the appropriate form. If they are unable to do so, they will be prevented from filing with the ministry or becoming a director of any company.
